In this two and a half hour workshop, we will focus on stimulating and harnessing the energies of Growth and Flexibility in alignment with the element of ‘Wood’. Within the 5 Elements System of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Wood is associated with Spring.
Join Mary-Lou and align to the energies of Wood, Growth, Flexibility within the 5 Elements System of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In this workshop, you will learn how to use your Gua Sha Tool for facial as well as body-wide self-massage and lymphatic drainage before coming into Yin Yoga poses to accelerate the benefits of this work.
Gua Sha uses a smooth, flat tool to massage the skin, which helps to release tension in the muscles, smooth out the fascia, works deeply with the energy channels, and increases circulation. This process can help to remove toxins and metabolic waste from the body, supporting a healthy immune system and improve energy levels.
The first part of the workshop will be focused on learning how to use the Gwa Sha stone safely and effectively. The second part will focus on Yin Yoga poses in collaboration with Pranayama to further enhance the detoxification process and smooth out Qi (“chee”), bringing the mind and body into a profound state of harmonisation with the Spirit of Spring.
The second part of the workshop will be a Yin Yoga postural practice, designed to accelerate the benefits of the Gua Sha work. In collaboration with Pranayama, we will further enhance the detoxification process and smooth out Qi (“chee”), calling the mind and body into a profound state of harmonisation with the Spirit of Spring.
INVESTMENT: £35 or £30 for SPACE Studio Members
Please Note: Feel free to bring your own Gua Sha stone or use the one provided for the duration of the session.
In this workshop, we will focus on stimulating and harnessing the energies of Growth and Flexibility in alignment with the element of ‘Wood’. Within the 5 Elements System of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Wood is associated with Spring.
We will begin by detoxifying the body through a simple lymphatic drainage protocol before using the Gua Sha in the lower legs to stimulate the energy channels associated with this season. We will cover some powerful acupressure points to nourish these vital energies.
Gua Sha is a smooth, flat tool in an elongated heart shape. Its different profiles and points are utilised in numerous ways to massage the skin. Working in this way helps to release tension in the muscles, increase circulation, smooth out the fascia, and work deeply with energy channels. This process can help to remove toxins and metabolic waste from the body, supporting a healthy immune system and improving energy levels.

Following publication of a feature article in YOGA Magazine in August 2020 (Yin/Yang and an Egyptian Goddess), Mary-Louise, has developed a way to weave ancient Egyptian goddess myth into her Yin as well as Yin Yang sequences. Mary-Louise's students have expressed huge enthusiasm for the inclusion of this ancient wisdom in her classes as well as working 1:1. Mary-Louise invites you to find out for yourself what new meanings & messages these myths hold for you, from the perspective of your own yoga mat!
